Who can apply for grants?
Land grant colleges or universities, cooperative extension services, other colleges or universities,
and other qualified public and/or private entities. They must have the capacity to develop and carry
out educational programs for agricultural producers - including farm organizations, commodity organizations,
lenders, consultants, and risk management service providers.
How do you apply for grants?
The proposal process is carried out in two steps. Individuals wishing to be considered for funding,
submit an on-line pre-proposal application form outlining their educational plans. If the pre-proposal
application is selected then an on-line full proposal application is completed and submitted.
When are proposals due?
The due date will vary depending upon when the funding is awarded to the Center from the USDA. Keep checking the website for the actual due date. For the 2008 grant year, pre-proposals were due December 13, 2007 and full proposals due February 28, 2008.
How many grants are awarded?
The first year the North Central Center awarded 13 block grants, 13 women's challenge grants, and 12 competitive grants.
In 2003 the Center awarded 10 competitive grants with 22 grants awarded in 2004. A total of 26 grants were again awarded in 2005. In the 2006 funding year 26 projects were funded and 28 projects funded in 2007 for a total of 150 projects.
